wonderful brand photography
Rebecca, these fantastic images are a testament to your wonderful brand photography and to your whole approach to the shoot. You listened carefully, advised and took the time to craft a plan, resulting in images that really have answered my brief. Thank you.

Nicola Blackwood - Blackwood Interiors, Edinburgh

Are you tired of feeling like potential customers aren't seeing you?

You're doing your best work, and you've crafted an amazing business which is ready to serve - but no matter what you do, the right people just aren't finding you. Instead, you feel drowned out and undercut by your competition. What you do is fantastic, but you can't get your ideal clients to notice it.

So you turn to your website and social media - but you need to figure out what to share and how. Maybe you don't have any images, so you rely on boring stock images to 'fill a space', images which don't reflect your personality or values. Or maybe the photos you do have lack any character. They're bland, generic - looking like everyone else out there. Perhaps your profile picture makes you cringe - and selfies are no longer cutting it.

Your online presence is a bit 'bleurgh' - lacking in personality and impact.

Wouldn't it be great to have a bank of on-brand photography and film that effectively, creatively and beautifully communicate who you are, what you do, why you do what you do and how awesome all that is?

A bank of unique, stand-out imagery available whenever and wherever you need it; for your website, social media profiles, print, PR and more. Images that help your target audience get to like you, see what is so brilliant about what you do, and ultimately trust you enough to buy from you.

Creative photography that you're proud to display to the world – that boost your confidence and put you streets ahead of your competition.

HEADSHOT OR BRAND PHOTOGRAPHY? WHAT DO YOU NEED?

Wouldn't it be great to have a bank of on-brand photography and film that effectively, creatively and beautifully communicate who you are, what you do, why you do what you do and how awesome all that is?

Headshots and brand photography often get talked about as if they’re the same thing, but they’re actually quite different experiences. A headshot session is short, simple and focused entirely on you. It’s perfect when you just need an updated profile image for LinkedIn, your website bio or a speaking event. Think clean, polished, friendly and professional. You show up, we chat, I gently guide you into natural poses and expressions, and you walk away with a small set of beautifully lit portraits that feel like the best version of you. No faff, no full-day planning, no pressure.

Brand photography, on the other hand, goes a lot deeper. Instead of simply showing what you look like, it tells the story of your business - what you do, how you work and why your clients love you. It gives you a whole bank of images for your website, marketing, social media, launches and PR. We plan together so I can understand your values, your personality and the message you want your audience to feel. On the day, we photograph you doing what you do best, alongside your workspace, tools, products, lifestyle details and a mix of portraits that feel warm, human and true to your brand. It’s a bigger investment, but it gives you months of ready-to-use content that genuinely connects.

So which one should you choose? If you just need one great image to represent you professionally, a headshot session is all you need. If you’re trying to stand out online, attract more of the right clients, or give your website and social media a real boost in personality and consistency, brand photography is the better fit. Most of my clients start with a headshot session to feel comfortable on camera, then move on to brand photography when they’re ready to tell their story in a richer, more confident way.

Why your business needs personal brand photography

Images play a crucial role in how you portray your business to your customers and clients, and in how potential clients see you. We all shop with our eyes and – rightly or wrongly – often decide who to buy from based on first impressions.

We are bombarded by images every day so the photographs you use need to;

Tell the story of your business - its values, vision and purpose
Clearly communicate what you have to offer on your website, blog posts, in PR, print and social media
Show your customers why they should buy your product/service over your competitors
Enhance your online presence
Be IMPACTFUL and UNIQUE, so that they'll stop your customers' scrolling, and encourage them to get in touch with you.
Tell the story of YOU! Authenticity is key in business – the more we can show you, in your business, doing what you love – the more customers will interact with you. You are part of your brand! If you're a solo entrepreneur - you ARE your brand! Personal branding photography is essential!

Business photography isn't just about the photography

Business brand photography with me is about WAY more than just the photographs or professional headshots. It's a whole experience. It's about enhancing your business.

The minute you choose to work with me, I'll be doing everything I can to help your business succeed.

Ahead of your session, we'll work together to get really clear on what your brand is, what you're trying to communicate, and the most effective way to do it.

We'll review your current brand presence, especially online, and see how it can be improved. We'll also review your marketing strategy (or create one if you don't have one) to clarify what we need your photos and film to do for you.

We'll then come up with a detailed plan to ensure that your professional photography and film session runs smoothly, is fun and leaves you with hugely effective imagery.

And after the photography session? I won't leave you wondering what to do with all those images! We'll meet again so I can help you plan how to use your new images and help you with any of the logistics e.g. scheduling, resizing etc.

Natural, relaxed, fun photography... Not scary!

One of my superpowers is helping people to feel better about being in front of the camera. As a recovering photo-avoider myself I get how difficult it can be to put yourself forward to be seen in your business. Sessions with me are calm, relaxed... And yes – FUN! It is really important to me that you enjoy the process.

I have a lot of experience in helping the photo shy. From a calming cuppa before we get started (or gin if it's warranted!), to giving you affirmations to practice ahead of your session... I'll never EVER leave you feeling awkward or weird... Or wondering what to do with your hands! Yes, this is lifestyle photography, but that doesn't mean you don't get any direction!

Every. Single. Client. I work with comes away saying how much they enjoyed it – even if they'd been absolutely petrified about being on camera before we started.

These images will empower you, leaving you bursting to get out there any showcase your business.

Choose the best for you: On location or in studio

Choosing between a studio session or an on-location session can feel a bit like choosing between your favourite cafés. Both are great… they just offer different flavours. The most important thing is that the space helps you feel relaxed, confident and totally yourself. When you feel good, the photographs sing.

My wee studio is perfect if you don’t have a dedicated workspace or you’d prefer a clean, neutral backdrop that won’t date. It’s cosy, homely and incredibly flexible. We can shape it to feel on-brand for you, whether that’s warm and earthy, bright and minimal or somewhere in between. It’s also private, which means you can settle in quickly without worrying about folk wandering past or what your house looks like. A wee note: most of the studio is up a set of stairs, just in case accessibility matters for you.

On-location sessions bring a lovely layer of personality. These can take place in your workplace, at home, in a café you love, a co-working space or even outdoors. They’re brilliant when you want your surroundings to help tell your brand story. We just need to make sure any public or private spaces give us permission to shoot there. The only trickier bit is that the real world doesn’t always behave. Weather can be unpredictable, people can wander into the background, and you might feel the need to tidy before I arrive. But don't worry, I've been working on location for well over two decades - we'll handle it! If we’re shooting outdoors, I offer complete flexibility with rescheduling so long as you’re not tied to a strict timeline.

The good news is that you don’t need to decide alone. Most folk come to me unsure, and we figure it out together during planning. I’ll ask a few questions about your business, your personality and the vibe you want your audience to feel. From there, it becomes clear what’s going to give you the most authentic, confidence-boosting results.

IN STUDIO : THE PROS AND CONS

Pros

  • Private, quiet and great for the camera-shy
  • Cosy, homely atmosphere
  • Completely flexible look - we can make it feel like your brand
  • No need to tidy/prepare a space
  • Easy access to coffee/tea and the loo
  • Weather-proof

Cons

  • The main studio is up a set of stairs
  • Less “environmental story” if your brand relies on your own space

ONLOCATION: THE PROS AND CONS

Pros

  • Instantly adds personality and storytelling
  • Perfect if your workplace or home is part of your brand identity
  • Great variety — cafés, co-working spaces, offices, outdoors
  • Helps clients imagine what it’s like to work with you wherever you work

Cons

  • May require permission from venues
  • Weather can dictate timing (though I offer full flexibility)
  • More variables — people, tidying, noise
  • Travel between locations will take up time in your session

amazing

I was quite nervous before getting the photoshoot done, but once we started Rebecca was absolutely AMAZING at making me feel comfortable, and just making it more fun, even in the middle of Edinburgh where there were loads of people going past. It was a really fun experience – I’ve got a cheek-ache from laughing so much, and not fake laughing – proper laughing! The photos are absolutely amazing! I usually hate photos of myself, but these are beautiful photos – I’m really, really happy with them.

Who am I and what do I know?

Hello! I'm Rebecca, and Edinburgh based brand photographer and filmmaker.

I play many roles in my daily life – mother, daughter, wife, photographer, business mentor, photography trainer, and entrepreneur. I also love playing music, scoffing Nutella and sipping gin (though not simultaneously).

Working with businesses is the BEST part of my job. It's very creative, and I get to meet lots of wonderful folk with interesting jobs - all working to change their patch of the world.

Shining a light on what makes businesses great, helping them stand out so that they can find their dream clients and giving them the confidence to succeed lights up my days. I strive to provide the support I wish I'd had when I started a business.

I have two superpowers (aren't I lucky?) The first is my ability to make my clients feel supremely comfortable in front of my camera. I understand that, for some, the idea of a photoshoot is the stuff nightmares are made of. You're out alone; I'm a recovering photo-avoider myself. I get it. You'll feel well-prepared, excited, and at ease on the day. Promise.

My second superpower is getting to the heart of your business - understanding who you are and why you do what you do, then translating that into creative imagery and film - shining a light on what's unique about what you do.

I've been a professional photographer for a very, VERY long time. It's a career that inspires and motivates me - there's nothing quite like helping a fellow business owner succeed in life and work.

What you can expect when you work with me

I'm an Edinburgh brand photographer with over 22 years of working professionally, who has run several businesses (not just as a photographer) and has a wealth of personal experience as an entrepreneur.
I spend a LOT of time getting to know your business - it's values, ethos, aims and vision. But don't worry if you aren't clear on these things - I can help you to pinpoint them.
My photography skills can handle anything you throw at them - tricky weather, dark rooms, complicated setups, varying locations. I work with speed, confidence and ease - the photography isn't the main show - you are.
You'll get a sneak peek within 24 hours of the photoshoot - so you can start sharing your confidence-boosting images straight away.
A detailed plan is provided with each of my main brand packages - including locations, outfits, shot lists, props and expected outcomes.
Marketing and visibility strategy is baked into every interaction with me. I don't want to just give you your images and walk away - I want you to be really clear on how to use them to help your business.
I'm not just an experienced photographer - I'm a mentor too. I have a wealth of experience helping people through some of life's toughest transitions. If showing up in your business is tricky - I'm your wing woman.
Combine brand photography AND film for the ultimate business visibility booster. This can be done in the one session, saving you time, money and effort.
I love everyone regardless of age, gender, race, or body shape. I have a wealth of experience with neurodiversity, disability and trauma. You can trust me to create a safe space for you.
I have a particular interest in helping women break free of the barriers that produce shame and fear around getting their photos taken. I've done a lot of research and work on myself so that I can help my clients work through the things that hold them back.
No two brand photo sessions of mine are the same. There is no point in me working through a generic 'shot list' - you'd just end up with images that look like everyone else's. Crafting something unique is really important to me.
Choosing a photographer is a very personal decision. That's why we meet for a completely commitment-free phone or video chat before you book. This ensures we're a good fit before you go ahead.
wonderful brand photography

I was very nervous before I met up with Rebecca as loathe being in front of the camera even in casual settings. But I needed to get professional photos done for my online business. Rebecca was very understanding and could tell I was terrified, so took me outside to a beautiful location where I could really relax rather than literally having the spotlight on me in a studio. Everyone has been wowed by the results and I’m absolutely thrilled because they are so different to what everyone else is showing up with. I’d thoroughly recommend Rebecca.

SO WHAT ABOUT FILM THEN? YOU'RE A PHOTOGRAPHER AND A FILM-MAKER?

I'm a hybrid photographer, meaning that when I'm photographing I can also regularly capture snippets of film.

Using video in marketing is becoming increasingly important. Video is a fantastic way to quickly communicate who you are and what you do for your customers.

Video builds trust WAY quicker than images alone.

As part of your session, we can include a film of you at work, interacting with customers, and creating products. We can also include an interview describing what you do or use a simple voice-over.

Here's an example of a small film I made for Nicola at Blackwood Interiors.

Features, awards and key clients

Fellow photographer, Victoria Rose, came to me in need of a full brand photography session. Victoria was after a full set of images that showed her artistic, creative, quirky self. She wanted something different from everyone else, something that would stand her apart from her competition. The session had to include gorgeous fashion, the backdrop of wonderful Glasgow, loads of books, her favourite teddy and plenty of warm and relaxed expressions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes! I regularly create payment plans to help spread the cost for my customers.
Absolutely! As part of the planning process, I will take a good look at how you market yourself and create a strategy that aligns with your business and your life. I'll then translate that into photographs and film. You don't have to have done ANY of this yourself, although it is useful if you have, of course!
I edit all my photographs to a high standard. I can do some small amounts of retouching (for example, the stress spot that came up the morning of the shoot! Haha)... But I refuse to make you look totally different to what you do. This is a body-shaming-free zone.
No problem. I have lots of experience with both, so I can help you with DIY. OR, to really level up your experience, we can call in some of my business friends to help. I know several wonderful makeup artists and stylists that I can recommend to you.
Yes, when I work as a commercial photographer for big, established or corporate brand, I offer hourly, half-day and daily rates. This type of photography doesn't include any brand strategy, visibility advice or marketing planning. I simply turn up, photograph, and leave. This sort of photography is often provided as part of a creative team or for businesses that have marketing staff in place.
I have a LOT of experience working with those who have difficulty being in front of the camera. If you're willing to challenge your fears, and work through the process with courage - I'm here to help you.

However, if the last photo of you was taken twenty years ago, and you have deep-seated self-image issues, I can recommend a fantastic mental health professional with experience in this area.

Working with both them and me in tandem will likely be the best way forward in this instance.
